Lydia Gakonde, BSW
Independent Social Worker
Glasgow, Scotland
Lydia Gakonde brings over fifteen years of specialized experience in the social care sector, where she has developed innovative solutions for diverse populations including those with severe mental health issues, learning disabilities, and children in residential care. Her expertise with children displaying sexually harmful behaviors has been particularly valuable in developing targeted therapy approaches that address underlying trauma.
For the past nine years, Lydia has focused on children and families social work, pioneering innovative solutions for families experiencing domestic abuse. Recognizing the limitations of traditional interventions in addressing root causes, she works closely with psychologists, particularly Dr. Marie Filion, to integrate evidence-based psychological approaches into her practice. This collaborative therapy model empowers families to facilitate meaningful, sustainable change.
The Emotional Integrative therapy Course has been personally transformative for Lydia while significantly enhancing her understanding of psychological responses in service users. Working closely with psychologists has enabled her to develop innovative solutions that shift from a blame-oriented culture to a more supportive, therapeutic approach for families. Her unique perspective at the intersection of social work and psychological therapy significantly enriches our program development, while her exceptional analytical and editing skills have proven indispensable to our interdisciplinary work.
